Howard James is a Senior Recruiter and Career Developer. His professional experience has always been in the people sector, originally obtaining a Degree in Education with his early career in Early Childhood Education. He ran a small professional development company and as part of that professional development work, was jointly published in that field. That book, subsequently being accepted as a text in multiple learning institutions.

The underpinning philosophies of Early Childhood Education, being based in the skills of observation and the developmental chaining of skills, have influenced and shape his current philosophies of Developmental Recruiting.

Developmental Recruiting seeks to understand the context of a career to-date and the motivations for a candidate’s next career step.

This approach is used in addition to utilising existing recruitment methodologies, including behavioural methodologies that look at the past to predict the future. The contention is that to do so, out of the context of the candidate’s career-choice-reasons, is a fundamental mistake. The combination of the both gives greater clarity to the outcomes.

His current professional goals are to innovatively develop solutions and options for Candidates and Client companies in a global economy that is experiencing skill shortages in critical industries and volatility across the board.

He continues to develop his interest and skills in Career change, transition and planning for a cross section of the employment market, including school leavers and mature men who often struggle mid career to find new relevance and direction when their career hits a crisis of some kind. His core area of expertise in Recruiting is in the Engineering, Technical areas aimed at Manufacturing, Mining and Industry.

Howard has most recently been involved in the development of the 456 Technical and Business Hub at Mayfield East in Newcastle. This is a group of businesses who operate independently, but act cooperatively to deliver a broad range of projects and flexible services from the one location.
