Howard James Career and Recruitment

As a result of organisational restructuring and economic changes, redundancy is a fact of the current job and employment sector. Increasingly, responsible organisations are choosing to provide support to their staff, managers and executives, to manage this change process by providing some level of outplacement service.

Outplacement services when performed by HLJ are about getting a “positive” result out of a potentially negative situation.

Such services, when performed poorly, are often simply about writing a resume for the displaced person. We see writing resumes as being only a small part of a bigger picture and empower people to undertake such tasks confidently themselves, at the appropriate time.

When you, as a business owner, are in a position where there is no option but to downsize and let people go, you must do t well or you risk creating a disgruntled word of mouth detractor of your business.

We consider the following points to be critical in ensuring that the separation of the employee is handled well :

  • We can protect and enhance your businesses reputation by what we do in outplacement.  Adding value to a process where people are respected is critical to a positive outcome for both parties
  • We help you maintain a positive internal work culture for the remaining team members
  • Ensuring that departing staff are supported and believe that they have been treated fairly (sometimes tough) – but procedural fairness is key to both parting amicably
  • Helping ovoid possible litigation and claims from disgruntled staff.  Staff who see they are supported and have been treated fairly, invest in their future not recriminations!
  • One size does not fit all.  Our approach has always been about “Career development” Both our recruitment and outplacement focus on the individual needs and aspirations of the candidate. We call that developmental recruitment – that in itself is key to our unique difference.
  • Further, linking and connecting people to other support services as relevant e.g. Financial Planning
  • Building a picture of the current broader contextual needs of the candidate and their family situation.  For example, we will include the spouse if appropriate as part of the process.
  • Outcomes are essential.  For the referring business – an enhanced reputation as an employer of choice.  For the former employee, a positive experience transitioning to the next stage of their career.
